Chiba Prefecture is located in the Kanto region and is part of the Tokyo metropolitan area. Chiba Prefecture's appeal lies in its balance between nature and the city. The history of Chiba Prefecture derives from the three provinces of Boso (Kami-sa, Awa, and Shimosa), which flourished along the Tokaido Highway from ancient times. 1873 saw the merger of two prefectures, Inba in the northwest and Kisarazu in the south, to form the present Chiba Prefecture. The name of Chiba Prefecture comes from the name of a samurai family called the Chiba clan. The Chiba clan ruled the Boso region from the Heian period (794-1185) to the Warring States period (1467-1568).
In agriculture, the prefecture is famous for beans such as peanuts and soybeans, and fruits such as pears and strawberries. In the fishing industry, Choshi Fishing Port and Kisarazu Fishing Port are booming, landing bluefish such as bonito and mackerel, as well as shellfish such as clams and clams.
Tourist Attractions to Visit
- Minami-Boso National Park: Shirahama Beach, Tateyama Castle Site Park, and other natural scenery and historical buildings.
