It takes nearly 1 hour by a bullet train from Tokyo station to Nasu-Shiobara station, and there are a number of parkland and hilly golf courses built along rivers, lakes, dense forests, hills and mountains. For example, Nishinasuno Golf Club was Japan’s first 18 holes golf course adopting bent grass for fairway and greens and many of its fairways are lined with beautiful red pine trees. Horai Country Club, a sister course of Nishinasuno Golf Club, is located in the same site. Both courses is worthy of being chosen as Nasu’s premier championship golf courses. Karasuyamajo Country Club designed by Inoue Seiichi known to be one of the best in the field of golf course architect in Japan, hosted LPGA tournament, Japan Ladies Open tournament 2016, won by Hataoka Nasa before turning to be a pro. New St. Andrews Japan with 27 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus is known as a tough and challenging course for even Jack himself. The other Nasu golf courses are worth the drive into the mountains to experience some of Tochigi’s most spectacular scenery.
