Course Description

One of the most challenging course in Japan designed by Jack Nicklaus

The New St. Andrews Golf Club, Japan is located in Tahara City, Tochigi Prefecture. It takes 30 minutes from the JR Nasushiobara Station by car, and 10 km from Yaita IC of Tohoku Expressway. The course, opened in 1975, designed by Jack Nicklaus with Desmond Muirhead at the first time in Japan, is tough and beautiful American style. Nicklaus said that he made the course too difficult, and it is said that players must make about 10 more shots than usual in round. The green is the raised green and there are many bunkers, so you can't get on the green with rolling. Many holes require the accuracy shot and approach skills.

The impressive hole is the 1st par-4 hole. As there is a large pond on the right side which continues to the green, the teeing shot must be droped on the fairway. At the second shot, there are a pond on the right side and a bunker on the left side. It is quite difficult and average score of this course is more than double bogey.

At the 3rd hole, there is a pond in front of the green and it is required the accuracy shot at the second shot.

The 12th par-5 hole is the dogleg to the left. There are many bunkers around the green.

The 18th hole is the long par-4. At the teeing shot, you had better aim the little left from the center. As it is narrow with trees from second shot point, you can't aim to get on the green in two from the left side. There are many bunkers in front of the green.

On the other hand, OLD Course is the links course which takes advantage of the natural shape. The course, designed with St. Andrews in Scotland, the home of golf, as its model, the fairway is full of complex undulations.

The 3rd par-5 hole is the dogleg to the right, and it is difficult and impressive. There are 5 water hazards and many bunkers that are placed strategic.
