Course Description

Gary Player's design philosophy lives on in the course that hosts tournaments.

Nishinihon Country Club is a historic golf course designed by world-renowned professional golfer Gary Player. The course was designed by Gary Player, who, along with Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, is regarded as one of the three greatest professional golfers in the world, and has achieved a career grand slam, winning every major title. Gary Player inherited the golf course philosophy that he developed while competing on the world's top courses, and the course layout, which takes advantage of the talents of the land, including lakes and undulations, remains beautiful year after year without weathering.

Opened in April 1975, the championship course has a history of over 50 years and has hosted many tournaments. Some of the most memorable tournaments include Kyushu Open Golf Championship

2019.  In this tournament held in August 2019, veteran player Taichi Teshima held off younger players with a solid game in the blazing heat to win the tournament for the first time with a total of 12 under par. With this victory, Teshima also broke the tournament's record for the oldest player at 50 years old. Other tournaments have been held as follows,

-- 1990: Kyushu Amateur Golf Championship Final

-- 1994: Kyushu Open Golf Championship

 -- 2011-2013: Kimie Corporation Cup

These tournaments have become part of the history of Nishinihon Country Club, enhancing the appeal and challenging spirit of the course.

On the Front 9, the key to success is to attack the large ponds. In particular, the par 3s on the 2nd and 8th holes and the first shot on the long 3rd hole are completely over water and are considered highly challenging holes.

The back 9 features a series of dogleg holes and up-and-down holes, requiring a variety of shot skills. In particular, the 13th hole is a dogleg to the right and is considered to be the most challenging.
