Course Description

A strategic course on the gentle hilly area, designed by Gene Sarazen

The Rope Club is located in Shioya town, Near Yaita City, Tochigi Prefecture. It takes 55 minutes from the JR Utsunomiya station by car, and 20 minutes from Yaita IC of Tohoku Expressway by car. This course opened in 1990 as the sister course of the Jun Classic Country Club. The course is placed on the gentle hilly area but bunkers and mounds are placed strategically. It uses 2 type of green, so you can select the course according to the grass condition. The course designer is Gene Sarazen who devised the sand wedge, and it is taken in free and novelty ideas. As the course distance is short and the ball is hard to roll on the green, ladies and beginners also can enjoy golfing.

At the front 9 course, the 5th par-4 hole is a dogleg to the left. It is better to aim right side of the fairway center at the teeing shot. If you drop the ball on the left side, you can't watch the green. It is difficult to approach from backside of the green, so you had better approach from the front. The 9th par-5 hole has a great view and it is a dogleg to the left. If you shot along the fairway, it is difficult to get a par because it has long distance. If you aim the island on the left side pond, it is downhill but the shot must fly more than 210 yards. But we recommend to try it, because you can get a chance to get on the green in two.

At the back 9 course, the 12th par-5 hole is a dogleg to the right. At the teeing shot, there are pond on the right side and trees over the pond. The distance between teeing shot area to the trees is 205 yards and if you jump over the trees, you can aim to get on the green in two.

There are two places offering something to drink for free for each Front9/ Back 9 course. The club has natural hot spring, hotel and restaurant which take in Japanese and Western styles blended together. Many players visit this course more than twice.
