The venue for the JGTO Challenge Tournament Sun Royal GC Cup
SUN ROYAL GOLF CLUB is an 18-hole course located in the hilly area at the foot of Mt. Misou in Kato City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is considered one of the flat and high-end courses in the Kinki area and is also the venue for the JGTO Challenge Tournament Sun Royal GC Cup. The course was designed by Fukuichi Kato, who has designed many champion courses.
The course is generally flat and wide with an elevation difference of less than 20m. Most holes have a view of the green from the tee. There are many luxurious holes laid out spaciously, and the subtle undulations of the fairways and fast greens can confuse players. The course’s size, length, maintenance, facilities, and all aspects satisfy golfers. The greens are both main designs and boast Bent 2 greens. The placement of fairways, bunkers, ponds, and even natural mountain views and vistas are skillfully utilized to leave an unforgettable sensation and strong impression on players.
To make a score, it is important to conquer long holes with distance and two short holes over valleys (ponds). The out has subtle undulations on the fairway from the side slope. Don’t be distracted by the wide view and keep a firm grip on the fairway to attack from the flower path. The in has many straight-line holes and most holes have a clear view of the pin. The signature hole is hole 13 on the in-course, a 170-yard PAR3. It’s an artillery green over a pond, but it’s short and flat enough to save par. Hole 17 is a 539-yard par 5. Both sides are narrow like an eel’s bed. Tee shots are more important for direction than distance. There is a pond in front of the green, so accuracy on the third shot is key to scoring.
