Course Description

The flagship course of the Taiheiyo Club, which has produced many memorable and famous scenes

Designed by world-renowned architect Lees Jones and supervised by Hideki Matsuyama. The "Sumitomo Mitsui VISA Pacific Masters" is a tournament course of international standard that Japan is proud to present to the world, and has attracted numerous top players such as G. Norman, S. Ballesteros, J.M. Olazabal, Shoji Ozaki, and Hideki Matsuyama as champions, and continues to attract golf fans today. In November 2001, the Gotemba Course was selected as the venue for the WGC-EMC World Cup 2001, and a total of 48 superstars representing 24 countries from around the world gathered at the Gotemba Course. The final day of the tournament, the D. D. Henderson World Cup 2001 was held at the Gotemba Course. On the final day of the tournament, T. Woods, who was playing for the U.S. team with D. Duval, made a chip-in eagle on the 18th hole, which was broadcast around the world as a miracle shot and made the name of "Taiheiyo Club" known around the world.

In 2018, the club completed a complete renovation for the first time in 17 years since 2001. Designed by world-renowned architect "Open Doctor" Rees Jones, whose brother is Robert Trent Jones, Jr. With "Restoration "* as his motto, Jones has remodeled more than 220 courses, including seven U.S. Open courses and eight PGA Championship courses. The two geniuses have transformed the course into an international-class tournament course.

The course has been transformed from an "era of increasing difficulty by increasing distance to an era of increasing difficulty by the shape of hazards such as bunkers and lakes". The IP point for tee shots has been re-set to the current tournament standard of 280 yards, all bunkers have been reviewed from the ground up, and numerous changes have been made to the landscaping around the greens and the shape of the ponds. In addition, trees have been boldly cut down to provide a more beautiful view of Mt. Fuji. At first glance, you may not notice any changes, but as you play more and more, you will realize how strategic the course is.
